“What we really need to do is bring back play for children. This is about making the shift from sedentary time to playtime.”
—Dr. Juana Willumsen
In 2003, our mission was to use play to get kids moving again. Today, play is still the construct that connects us all. The World Health Organization (WHO) believes play is the birthright of all children.
Never underestimate the value of Play! While participating in K.I.S.S. students learn and develop:
Teamwork/Cooperation
Promotes unity and fosters friendship and loyalty. A teamwork environment motivates members to work harder, cooperate and support one another more
Physical Fitness/Wellness Skills
Regular exercise is essential because it boosts your immune system, reduces weight gain, stress and anxiety, and improves sleep.
Healthy Socialization
Can improve mental and emotional health, improve confidence and self-esteem, boost immunity and brain health and give us all a sense of purpose we crave.
Organizing/Planning
Allows you to achieve important goals, get the results you need, and helps you deal with challenges and changes we all must face.
Communication/Leadership
Good verbal and communication skills are essential in order to deliver and understand information quickly and accurately. Great leaders communicate effectively. These skills require practice. K.I.S.S. provides a platform for students to practice these vital soft skills.
Volunteerism
Research shows that teens who engage in community service are more responsible, have a higher self-esteem, learn new skills such as, leadership, communication, and dependability. They are also more likely to become lifelong volunteers.
